Hamat Relatives
My grandparents on both sides were from Hamat and emigrated to the US around 1912 - 1914. My mother and father's American last name were both "George" My maternal grandmother was an "Owen" (Aoun possibly) and my my maternal grandfather was "George" (Gemayel, Jamail possibly) My paternal grandfather was "George" (Shaheen possibly) and paternal grandmother was a "Coury" (Khouri, Khoury) I believe all of my grandparent's siblings emigrated but I was interested in contacting any relatives I might have in Hamat and would love to start planning a visit to the ancesteral home town.

Yes, I am sure that your ancestors on both sides of the family came from Hamat and a little village next to it called Wijh-al-Hajar (face of the rock). I could be also related to you too. The George''s family boys and girls are first cousins of my father. Good luck. David Khouri, M.D. Houston, TX, USA

Hello Joshua: I hope that you enjoy your trip to the Carribean but you will enjoy yourself more in Lebanon. I was born in Hamat and came to the States in 1964 and I have been to Lousiville 200 times. I have also been to Lebanon, Kentucky where all the Georges'' and the Deeps'' live. My uncle lived in Louisvilee, but he died about 8 years ago. His name was Robert Corey. He still has a son who live in Loisville. I may go to Hamat this summer for 15 days if time permits. Have a great trip. David Khouri Houston, Texas

Teresa: Yes, we are related. My father and Haleem George who used to be the mayor of Lebanon, Ky are first cousins. My father''s father and Haleem''s George mother are brothers and sisters. Since I am older now, I go to Hamat two times a year and plan to retire there. I only have one daughter who is a third year medical student at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

Hey David! oh my gosh, this is so cool to find this webpage. My name is Joshua Mike, from KY. I''m in St. Kitts and Nevis in the eastern caribbean now, but will be moving back to the states soon and want to plan a trip to Lebanon. My last name, being ''Mike'' was the americanized version of Mi-hoy-al, which was my grandpa''s father''s name, adopted after my gradpa got married. We, in Lousivlle, KY, have many George''s, Coury''s, etc...Are you interested in talking more about a trip to the motherland? I am wanting to go with my dad, and hjis 2 friend, both lebanese from KY one from brasil, lebanese too, and all from the Hamat area.

Teresa (Linda Mae''s daughter)
I''m Teresa McGeeney, daughter of Linda Mae George originally from Lebanon, KY. I was just talking to my mother about how we would like to visit Hamat when I stumbled upon this page and realized all the information you listed about your relatives was true for us too! I''m just curious if you''ve made a trip to Hamat, and also if you are related to me!

My paraents came from Hamat about 1900. Her name was Cory(I am sure it was Khouri) or something like that spelling. Pop was probably Yacoub. Both names were probably changed by immagartion upon arrival. We probably have relatives in Hamat. Cant seem to have the right schedule for a visit, wars, civil strife, etc. How far is Hamat from Beirut?

GEORGE SAKR
